Hi andy-peart -
I had a similar re-boot loop when I updated my Via Live recently - switch it off, wait a couple of minutes, then do a manual reset - hold the power button until you hear the "drum roll" sound, then release the power button.

Thanks for the help Keiron and the tip.
I too have a Via Live 120 with UK and Europe, my PC is running XP Home and I use google chrome as the browser.
I was unable to even turn the unit off for quite a while but it did eventually reboot. Much to my relief.

I have a 9 month old Via Live 120. Worked perfectly until 31st March as is the case with most others on these forums. Tom Tom sent me an e-mail telling me to go to web site and automatically download 'Mandatory software'. Did soft reset afterwards...indeed several times! Also emptied cache as instructed but I've tried to use it since and either it is always 'awaiting gps signal' or only recognises a signal for a few seconds before 'dropping out' again. Not much use when in a strange area...as others have mentioned.
Looked at all the forum tips but to no avail. If I check my version number on the device it shows App. 10.501. This is after the automatic download? Have I done something wrong with the 'automatic download'? Is there something else I should have done as well?
Another tip says to go to 'My device' on my Via 120 live. This is not shown but 'Version Information' is where I find the map issue v. 870.3404 and the App. 10.501. 739168.74.
For information;
Via Live 120 - 9 months old
Computer running XP SP3
I.E. 8 browser
App. 10.501
No problems previously with either the device, connection to computer or downloading notified updates.
If anyone has the answer to this (hopefully Tom Tom do?) could they kindly share it with us please. I shall then continue telling people how good this satnav has been....
Many Thanks
Update on 'progress' (?) 13th April.
Tried again for any updates on Tom Tom. All the official information links take you around in a circle...not very impressive.
Situation now is that when it is switched on, it boots twice before slowly coming to life. Touching the screen makes no difference until it is ready to work. Still 'waiting for gps signal' so I have to 'soft reset' and then it has worked fairly well...still a bit temperamental dropping gps for several minutes at a time. If I don't do a soft reset each time I switch it on...it will not work no matter how long it is left.
Still hopeful that Tom Tom will do the right thing and issue a resilient fix....and quickly! Can't be helping the brand image. Pity really, as I was quite happy with my near £200 investment until this happened. If there is no fix soon surely many will go elsewhere in future?

Hi there
I too seem to be on the 'loop of death' with this GPS fix. My Via Live 120 (6 days off being a year old) will not connect to the computer correctly in order to get the update that will supposedly fix the GPS problem. I am soooo frustrated, especially as I really could have done with 'traffic' working on my way back from a gala this morning. I expect it will not be fixed by tomorrow either so more frustration.
Has anyone worked out how to do this on a Mac (I have a new 27" iMac)?
Any help very gratefully received
Karen
Update: Have gone onto Firefox (rather than Safari) and now get as far as the dpwnload asking if I wasnt to 'open with' or 'save'. I remember reading it was 'open with' but does anyone know what I open it with (in the choose box)???
