I am probably preaching to the converted here Whenever a new tom tom map is installed on my go 530 it deletes all favourites and the home location. Tom Tom do not inform purchasers of maps UP FRONT that this is a possibility and therefore valuable information is lost. I believe that all company representatives and persons who relied on this information for work purposes and have been caught out by this fault should get together and collectively Sue Tom Tom for loss of earnings and loss of business. I will be setting up a website for this purpose in the near future. The favourites section is usless and it should be made VERY CLEAR IN ALL INSTRUCTIONS especially in tom Tom Home b that it will be deleted when a new map is installed.

But copying the mapsettings.cfg from a previously backed up map to the specific (new) map folder will restore them.

Do you know why is this copying process is not part of the standard map update routine?

In most cases, TT HOME will transfer the favorites automatically to the new map. Sometimes this does not work. Then you can use the mapsettings.cfg file to transfer the favorites manually.

This is pretty poor - this should definately be communicated to end users or even better should be fixed so this doesn't happen. Another example of Tom Tom ignoring the user experience.....

I have purchased map updates for TOMTOM One, Go 530 and 930 devices in my family for several years. Althouh TomTom Home is updated regularlyI have never seen the CFG file retained. I have to manually save and restore the CFG file every time. It's surprising that TomTom havn't resolved this, as it suggests TomTom staff don't actually use TomTom products!

I have had the same peoblems losing favorites and having to delete the old map before adding the new one is a pain. I hope Tom Tom gets the message and does something about having ones favorites in a seperate folder that does not get erased when deleting the old map. Do all the other GPS mfg's handle updates the same way??

I've been caught out by that as well
I have now created my own points of interest category and add my favourites to that so I can restore them from my backup using TomTom Home if I ever need to.

I saving the mapsettings file and inserted them in the backup folder in the correct place. I restored the TomTom and now it is in a start up loop. Per TomTom, I need to delete the mapsetting file, So how do I restore my farorites? How about my saved POIs?
This is a real pain each time I need to upgrade the maps. You would think that TomTom could make this so you didn't have to be an IT genius to udate maps.
