When I connect my TomTom Start 20 it opens My tomtom but then TomTom home will not recognise it. I need to back it up. How do I get TomTom Home to recognise it?

The Start 20 requires MyTomTom, not Home 2 as the interface. It will NOT be recognized as an external drive on your computer; further, you can't backup the contents since the user has no access to the file system on the unit.

Are you saying that I cannot backup and I cannot restore my previos points of interest?

There is no way to back up the device to the PC, you should be able to add custom POI files though using the MyTomTom interface - Mike

Hi I just bought the Start 25 and also this one is not recognized by TomTom Home. The website sees the connected device, My TomTom sees it, only TomTom Home keeps telling me to connect the device. I Use TomTom Home 2.8.2.1171.
Does it mean that the Start models do not connect to the software and that there is basically no use for all the extra functions?
That would be something.
Thanks

That model REQUIRES MyTomTom, not Home 2. Get it at tomtom.com/getstarted.

And even using MyTomTom you are extremely limited as to what you can do. At the moment after connecting all you get is the message, your TomTom is up to date, no files to download. It would have been nice if TomTom had warned people that it is still being developed. There is no GPS Quick Fix or any facility to sign upto the Map update service, no way to back up your TomTom 20/25, apparantly it is still being developed and hopefully will soon become available. Yeah right.!!! ![]()

Does this also mean that no POI's et cetera can be downloaded and installed? At the moment in the mytomtom menu you can only select a self made ov2.
If this is true, this device (start 25) is useless.
The Tom tom support line (phone) is not available (?) at the moment (already trying since 17:20 CET) ![]()

Yes, that's exactly right. Rubbish don't you think. ??

Really disappointed with TomTom for offering a new interface, which has very limited finctionality.
A statement from TomTom advising on a functional release date and an extension to the 90 daya free map updateperiod would also be expected.
It is like buying a car with only 1 forward gear. The others, including reverse will be made available in the future. When is that? Not much use if you are taking a long journey tomorrow.
Someone at marketting/design should be fired. Poor performance. A
