My new tomtom will not accept the activation code for free lifetime maps that came with it. Says it's not for the device connected but the device connected is what I have and the code is entered correctly. what do I do?

According to TT Tech support the problem is that the unit doesn't have the most current map. So the activation code won’t work until you can get the most current map which I believe at this time it is version 8.70 check your map version and you will probably find it to be 8.65xx or older. Herein lies the problem currently you can't download the latest map, not really sure why not but according to the website and the tech I spoke with this the actual problem. He also stated that they are working on a solution to this but could not give an expected completion date. He stated as soon as this was completed I would receive an email advising that I could download the most current map and once that was done the activation could would then be accepted. Trying to activate my 1500TM activation code for over a month now and talked with tech support DOZEN TIMES ... but no avail ... it says "
REALLY SICKnTIRED now .. tech support not only can't help but GUESS WHAT .. they don't even have access or seen MyTomTom software !! amazing support, is'nt it ..?

My activation code is no good right now either. If you click the support tab @ the top of the screen @ tomtom.com
scroll down the page till you see NOTIFY ME click on it and they will E mail you when the software is repaired so we can get our maps. Hope this helps you.

TT 1000.2000 series do not need to be activated to receive map/app updates.
Updating is based on serial #. I have had mine 7 months and never activated my 2505TM. I have had 2 full map updates and several app udates.
My TT had no activation code in the box like my Home2 based units. Activation codes will not work.

Same problem here. Tried the support route and they supposedly pushed an update code for me and it still doesn't work. All the same problems you are seeing here. And the tech support folks act like they are surprised that there is a problem at all.
Can't they just say "we know we are having a problem and will notify you when we have a fix". I feel like I am being LIED to. This is TomTom number 6 for me and my family but will probably be my last one. What a shame.

I am no longer trying to activate, I just want to receive the lifetime map updates that were included with my purchase. And I cannot receive them using MyTomTom
