Today a new version of the Eurpoean Maps has popped up saying it's available to download on my 1005 via MyTomTom.
2960.1 MB, version 870.3459
So I connected the 1005 to my PC and clicked 'start download' only to get:
"Not enough memory available
You currently don't have enough free memory available on your device to install this content." |
So, where do I go from here? Why don't you give your customers a link on this message, to a page that will resolve this? Why are we just left scratching out heads? In fact why is there this problem at all? Why doesn't it just work?
As you know, this unit doesn't have expanadble memory. How to up update to this new version?
Many thanks for any guidance.
p.s. unrelated issue, is there no way to back up, edit & add to my favourites and POI's online? Why is there no way to access my Google Maps locations? After all, you offer Google searches and have a data SIM buit in. It would be very convienent to be able to log into my Google Account via he unit and have access to all my locations.

TT update is now offering me a "new" Map v885.4007, which is the one I already have installed ???

Many of new posts concern this problem.
No solution from TomTom BV yet.

Ignore the message. If you have the 885 map, it IS the latest. There is a bug on TT's map servers that is offering the current map to people who already have it.
890 is not due till mid May 2012.

Thanks dhn.
So it's just another bug. I should have known! This whole web interface is very poor, such a horrible user experience that is continually throwing up issues. I much prefered managing my TT using a dedicated application on my PC, over this web based option. Also, more memory should have been included on the 'built in' only units.
I really hope that TT can drastically improve the GUI on these units and the web interface. Kinetic scrolling instead of arrow boxes, i mean come on, navigation arrow boxes it not acceptable today(!) , less clutered appearance, much more responsive OS & screen response, ability to navigate to any POI , anywhere - not just near you (can't believe this limitation still exists)....
There are still a lot of very annoying limitations on these 'top end' units. Personally i'd like to simply re-flash my unit to run an Android based OS and install a GPS program that uses TT's excellent maps.
Ho-hum, when you do eventually get it programmed, at least it works pretty well most of the time ![]()

Hi,
TT is in the progress of applying a MyTT update which causes this issue.
If it is the same map as the one you've already got installed on your device please ignore it.
They are looking for the problem and will solve it as fast as possible.
Regards
Lars.

Those of you who have got your TomTom Go Live 1005 up and running after the new European Map update are very lucky. My device updated the software which include Twitter (which I don't want!) then started to download the new v8.55 European Map - which ran forever! Now the device won't even Reboot. All it does is display the TT fingers then the TT music followed by a "flash" and the opening desktop screen. From then it simply flashes on and off at about twenty seconds intervals for ever. TomTom Customer Support have said that I should return the device for "Repair @ £95" but DHL won't collect it as I don't have the Proof of Purchase. This has been going on for three weeks but I am on Holiday in Southern Spain and will be leaving for Home in Northern UK in two weeks - without the use of a navigation device. Although I accept that it's out of warranty, the device was working when I updated it. Surely new updates should be covered by their own warranty. After all we are paying for them.

I wish I had read these comments before I had bought my 1005. I would never have bought it! I do not like the web based program where it is impossible to remove or add to the unit. Computer voices that can't read foreign place names, voice control that has to be activated by pressing a button, how safe is that? On my old Garmin all I had to do was say "voice control" and I was in the system.
No lifetime map updates! Come on catch up with the other makers.
TomTom we expect better than this.
