Live Via 120 - Incorrect speeds and speed camera locations

I bought my Via 120 Live last year, and apart from the problems updating it when the new map became available, it has performed ok - I was particularly saved when the A14 was blocked earlier with a lorry fire this year and it got me to work on time.

I have noticed that road speed limits and speed camera locations are becoming increasingly out of date. I frequently drive from the east coast of the UK to the midlands, and the Orwell Bridge near Ipswich has an indicated 50 MPH limit on teh TomTom but this has not been present for months. The speed limit appeared about two weeks after the restrictions had been removed. Also, the last time I drove up the M6, the TomTom was indicating 50 MPH limits along long parts which also simply didn't exist. Despite the map only recently being updated, I found myself on a non-included road that had been there some time before the map update.

My question is, is TomTom that much out of date, or is my TomTom simply not updating speed cameras and limits - Do I have to pay extra for this over and above the Live services included with my device?

One of the reasons I bought the TomTom was so that I could get other users updates into my maps, but I seem unable to update maps until the software is updated to be more in line with other models. I feel TomTom shoudl have spent more time on these devices before releasing them to the public, or conisder extending the Live subscriptions of users who have already bough them?

Hi are you opted into mapshare ,this can help to a certain degree for road speeds.the cameras are a different matter.personally i dont use tomtoms i use pocketgpsworld,as there far superior(there are other 3rd party databases aswell)

1st go live 1000 (dead)
second go live 1000 (dead)
current go live 550 alive and doing what the 1xxx/2xxx/ vias should be doing

Re: Live Via 120 - Incorrect speeds and speed camera locations

Yup, opted in to Map share with the option of TomTom OR another user confirming, just changed that to ANY to see if it makes a difference.

Can the PocketGPSWorld cameras be used with the Via 120?

I've used them in the past when I had CoPilot on my phone.

I'll check the PocketGPSWorld website now that we can upload POI to the 120.

Re: Live Via 120 - Incorrect speeds and speed camera locations

I've subscribed to the GPSPocketWorld as they do indeed support the Via\Go series with the new MyTomTom app. A bit lengthy to get the initial setup done (upload all the .bmp and .ov files and also configure all the alerts).

Should be easier next time as I only need to upload the .ov files.

Seems much more comprehensive than the TomTom supported database - But an extra £20 per year.

hi pocketgpsworld a lot better ,yes there is the £20 fee (but if you spot a camera that isnt on there list or one that has been removed and your the first to report then you get free lifetime subscription)also consider £20 to a speeding fine and points .although i know we should always drive within the limit but it happens to the best that you can go over :smileyhappy: also you can do your own map correction for the speed limits ,tap the map correction icon and when its conveniant alter the speed for that road its then up to you whether you share this or not

Re: Live Via 120 - Incorrect speeds and speed camera locations

I posted this reply earlier but it seems to have disappeared?

I raised a support ticket for this via email, I'll report back with what TomTom say:

I have had a TomTom Via Live 120 since December last year. My understanding is that I should receive fixed speed camera updates if I synchronise my device with MyTomTom.
I have installed MyTomTom on a Windows 7 x64 device and a first generation Macbook Air. It is my understanding that fixed speed cameras are updated on a Tuesday and Thursday, but I have never been notified of an available download. Because the speed cameras are so out of date, I have had to subscribe to a third party service who provide speed cameras as an installable POI .ov file. I am disappointed that I have had to do this as I understood the LIVE service would provide updates. Can you please tell me how I can ensure that speed camera updates are downloaded to my device when I synchronise with MyTomTom?
I have received Map and Application updates through the MyTomTom program.

Re: Live Via 120 - Incorrect speeds and speed camera locations

Well... I've had an official response that fixed speed camera updates are not yet available through MyTomTom, and that TomTom plan to give us "compensation" for the time that we are without speed camera updates. If I had known this before I had bought my Via 120, I simply would not have!

Balls.

Dear Karl,

Thank you for taking the time to contact TomTom Customer Support. My name is Susan and we are always happy to help.

The reference number for your query is 110506-003867.

I understand that you are unable to download the Speed Cameras updates for Via Live 120 device.

Please be assured I will provide you the appropriate information.

Currently you would not be able to download the Speed Cameras updates as MyTomTom is not fully functional to update the device.

We are currently introducing MyTomTom for the latest generation of TomTom devices.

However, later you will be compensated with Speed Cameras subscription for the period for which you were unable to update the Speed Cameras on the device. Currently we are unable to confirm the time scale for the Speed Cameras updates availability.

We suggest you to subscribe to email notification which will provide you updated information regarding Speed Cameras.

Please see this page: http://www.tomtom.com/12566. At the bottom of the page there is a link called ‘Notify me’ - by clicking on that link, we are able to send you an email when we have updated it to include more features on MyTomTom.

Please let me know if you have any more queries we will try our best to resolve it.

Re: Live Via 120 - Incorrect speeds and speed camera locations

My reply:

Firstly, thank you for your accurate reply. It is refreshing to know the true story.
Secondly, I wish to raise a complaint. If I had known fixed speed camera updates were not available on this device, I simply would not have bought it. I think your advertising is misleading at best.

Agree to that even though they confessed.
