Bought the GO 1005 world last week but there's not enough memory space for the guaranteed map updates. Anybody else experienced this?

Hi
I believe the best is to contact the TomTom Support Team, go to the following website and choose one of the contact methods below 'need help'? at the right side:

Writing directly to TomTom might be an option aswell.
That way you might draw there atention and get a respons.

I suspect you will have to phone TomTom Customer services and ask them to remove an unwanted map region (which can be downloaded again later, should you deceide to go there). You should then be in a position to download the updated map for your region, having made enough space on your device. At the moment, you can't remove maps manually.

Thanks for the replies everybody. I have contacted TomTom who say that I need to buy the SD card to update the GPS. I disagree since in my mind if a brand new product is unable to receive a guaranteed update it has been sold in a defective condition and not as described, so I will take this further. Alternatively I can return the product within 14 days if I am disatisfied

Hi kemiker,
you'll maybe need to remove some of the maps to get the updates installed and afterwards switch maps again to get the other updates. I don't think you'll need all of the maps at the same time. So as long as the SD card slot is not working you may just only install the maps you currently need. The other maps will be available in your account for redownloading and reinstallation.

Lars.

Tomtom have just released a new software update and part of this update enables the memory card slot, certainly in the 1005 World anyway.I have just been out, purchased a micro SD card, popped it into my device(1005 World) and it works.
After you have loaded this update insert SD card, switch on.
The card needs to be formatted, this just takes a minute in the device.
Once this is done connect the device to your computer and open the my tomtom browser,go to the My Tomtom green tab and select manage content. You will see that the SD card is listed below and how much is free on each device, click on My maps and scroll down to the map you don't have on your device, click install and that's it. You will need to switch your device off and then on again and then switch maps in the usual way.
Hope these instructions prove helpful,
J

I bought the same device a couple of weeks ago and managed to complete the map updates. I believe the maps are downloaded to your pc then the old maps removed before installing the new ones to the device, that how it appeared to work anyway. I had very little space when I started, probably about 30mb, but everything installed fine. I did do one map at a time though.

I think the point was missed, I have just received my 1005 world and was disappointed that the only charger that comes with the unit is the car charger, the lead is to connect the device to a laptop, I do not consider this a home charger, what if someone doesn’t have a computer? Unfortunately, we’re all stuck with TomTom for now until one of the other suppliers gather some strength. Also disappointing is the fact that no manuals are in the box and no real explanation.
Is it correct that the SD slot does not work on the 1005 world unit?
