Re: 2505 Battery Problems

[ Edited ]

As far as I have followed this "Battery Status" screen indicating "something" about the life of the battery, it seems to be just crap! Don't rely on that!

In my device (my 2nd one)

- when it says the battery is charged, there is typically 80-95% charge AND in so many cases after a 30 min driving the battery status has dropped to about 40-50% or even less

- also when the screen indicator says the battery is fully charged the power button led is still orange - not green, which also should indicate the device is fully charged

- today after a 30 min driving the charge was dropped from claimed "full" (95%) to 20% and when I at that point connected the device to charger the status screen claimed after 1 minute(!!!) that the battery is fully charged - what a joke! Power button indicator was still orange.

- TT USB car charger seems to be uncapable to charge the device while in use - it's just offers enough power to keep the device powered (now I'm using the high speed charger which offers more AMPs than the origin)

- to get the device "fully" charged, the best way is to shut it down totally(!!! not in sleep mode!!!) and then charge it over the night

It seems that there are widely a lot of serious problems  - either in the hardware (battery), software or both. To my opinion the problem is in SW related, because when my 1st device died having all the death battery symptoms I was able to get the device to live (working) by switching it to the "flight mode" which switched all connections off, but device was otherwise working again "nornally".

Re: 2505 Battery Problems

I sent my second 2505 back to TT for battery problems.  They quickly sent me a replacement. (They received mine on Tuesday and on Thursday I had my replacement).  Right now the new one has no problems, but I will wait and see).  It is strange that my Go700 never had a battery problem in the years I had it.  (the Go700 had a calibration problem that could not be recalibrated).  There is no new software on the 2505, if fact I had to do a software update off the web.  I had to email TT to get them to add my new serial number to my account so I could get updates - you would think they would have thought of that.  I asked for a 2535 as a replacement, but they refused.  I gues that is only reserved as an option after your third replacement, so I will see if that is necessary in a couple of months.

Re: 2505 Battery Problems

I have also jus had a second unit go bad on me.

In two months (bought it on July 15th) I've had two 2505's, both with duds for batteries.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to get my money back?

Hang in there sunshine, I also had 2 duds, but 3rd one is working like a charm for the time being. As long as tomtom keeps sending Me new ones, I'm a Happy Camper. Next time it craps out, I may keep the exchange unit sealed in the box and sell it on FleaBay.

Re: 2505 Battery Problems

Sigh. Well, my second 2505 has lasted one month! Now the battery is dead. Again.

I am reluctant to pay another $30 to ship it in, to get a replacement, only for it to fail again. This is one of the worst experiences with ANY electronics I have bought in recent memory. It blows my mind that TomTom has not issued a recall on these.

I think I will just try to sell it as is, buy an iPhone 5 (when it comes out) and buy the App instead. This hardware is hopeless.

Re: 2505 Battery Problems

Hey jB, don't feel bad, another guy is on his 5th unit. Why are you paying shipping ? Others are getting return Courier Shipping Labels from TomTom via email. Why take the discount selling a defective unit when you could be selling a bran New unit.

Dial for dollars, call CS for warranty replacement. Who knows the next one may be bug free. My third one is working like a charm, (for the time being).

Re: 2505 Battery Problems

Okay, so I will give it another go. This time, they said they will send me a shipping label sometime next week, so they pay for it. Unfortunately, they refused to send me a different model, so I am stuck with another 2505.

I really get the feeling they are just waiting for when my warranty runs out, so they don't have to do this anymore.

On the bright side, I am going to have a tonne of USB cables and dash mounts. At least I can backup my favourties this time.

Re: 2505 Battery Problems

Joining the crowd already on my 4th unit since November 18th 2010. After paying for shipping on 2 units tomtom picked up shipping on 3rd unit.

I was promised by a tomtom rep (on the phone of couse, not in writting) that tomtom has fixed the battery of death issue. I hope that is true but I really feel they are just shipping units until my warranty runs out and the old "sorry out of warranty time"

That's exactly how I feel. Your warranty is almost over, at least I have until the end of January. I suspect I will be on my fourth by then too.

When did you last hear this promise of a fixed battery of death issue? I only got my second unit 1.5 months ago...
