Sorry to read about your multiple replacements - must have been frustrating. I suspect, though, that you'll really like the 2535 M Live -- that's the model I have, and it's an excellent device overall. Rough way to get it, but it looks to me like you're winding up with something really good. Good luck with it!

Re: 2505 Battery Problems

Well after my second dead 2505TM, I decided to get a refund.  TT agreed but then realize that it was a mistake because I did not purchase directly from TT.  I then asked for the 2535 in which they also complied and I just received it last Friday.  One biggest change or improvement on the 2535TM is the new "Battery status" in Menu.  So I can now actually check the status of my battery to give me a little more insight of the device.  It looked to me like TT have taken notice of the battery issue on the 2505.  Just out of curiosity, does anyone else also have this "Battery status" on their 2505?  I wonder if this is just a new firmware or a solution to the battery issue on the 2505 that is being implemented on the 2535.

Re: 2505 Battery Problems

My 2505TM has a battery status button in the menus - it says 94%, but it will not turn on if not plugged into the power.  I left it connected to the computer overnight and powered off, and it still would not accept a charge.  It appears the battery has gone bad, but the 2505 does not know that it is.   The battery fuel guage is obviously not working.   Has anyone had this problem with a 2535, or is this going to continue to be a problem with all 2500 series units?

Don't know how widespread this is -- I have no battery problem at all with my 2535 M Live. I generally use the base, plugged into the car's power take-off when I drive, so I rarely depend much on battery. However I do use it periodically (maybe 2 or 3 times per month) as a walking GPS, or on battery when I'm in someone else's car or in a taxi. Under those circumstances, I've used it on battery as long as about 2 hours or a bit more, and never ran it all the way down. My understanding is that a charged battery should last up to about 3 hours in these devices.

I tried googling  tomtom 2535 "battery problem" -- and get a couple of hundred hits, but when I browse through them, most hits are on pages with multiple topics, and only a handful seem to refer to battery questions on this device. Can't be positive, but I don't think it's a widespread issue.

Re: 2505 Battery Problems

To all the people that have posted about this battery problem, I hope they read this post because I'm fairly certain I know what caused my problem (though of course I could be wrong).  I am typing this as I am sitting here waiting for TT tech support call me back about this very issue.

I was updating my device online several weeks ago.  Everything was working perfectly and I had applied several updates in the past.  This one particular update, I had completed the download/install and got the message that the device could be safely disconnected.  The connector that connects to the device has magnets which are meant to keep it firmly connected.  When I went to pull the connector from the device, it became partially disconnected but I guess I didn't pull hard enough because the magnets partially pulled the connector back to the device.  At that point I heard a very small "zap" (which could have easily been missed if I hadn't been sitting so close to it and looking right at the connector).  Immediately the light went from green to orange and has never changed to green again, no matter how long I charge it.  I believe the issue we are seeing is some componentry getting short-circuited (similar to a fuse) and the device will not work correctly after that.

Re: 2505 Battery Problems

When my battery went the light would change from orange to green shortly after plugging it in, so it knew the battery was charged.  In the menu it said battery was at 95%, but would power off instantly when power cord removed (like no battery connected at all).  Was working fine the day before.

Now I'm wondering whether to eBay my replacement from TomTom while it still works....

This seems to be a common issue with these units.

Re: 2505 Battery Problems

I checked and my 2505 does have the Battery status screen.  Mine reads 0 % no matter how long I charge it.

Re: 2505 Battery Problems

How do you get to the battery status screen? I just received my fourth 2505 and already it won't hold a charge. Piece of junk

Go into Settings, then scroll for option to select "Battery Status" (that's how it works on 2535 M Live -- I'm guessing the menus are generally the same for the 2505)

Re: 2505 Battery Problems

My battery status is reading 90% after an overnight charge, and will not run after unplugging it.   It looks like the battery status is just a WAG (Wild Ass Guess) as opposed to a SWAG (Sophisticated Wild Ass Guess)
