Forcing users into choosing map zones eventually instead of having a full map installed just because the device came delivered without enough storage space that could be prevented by having a larger storage installed.
Forcing users into buying a newer device just because the battery would be malfunctioning but the navigation system perfectly works with a newer battery.
When your using a navigation system with full maps, or being forced to use map zones and still using the device for a long time, how would this cuts off the revenue stream from upgrades? Customers are still buying services for the device they purchased.

Stefan,
I would like to agree with your assertion that good customer service reaps rewards. Unfortunately that may be true in the long term but big business is now driven by short term goals. If you are the MD you make loads of cash for you and possibly the shareholders and then get out; why care about the customers or consequences on the business?
It is very sad how selfish society has become; just look at a lot of modern drivers!
Don't get me started!
I run my business based on the old standards of customer service and what happens? They all rush off and buy it cheaper on a faceless website and get no service when they have problems. Tesco's has won out; stack 'em high and sell 'em cheap and sod customer service. You've seen it here with TT!

When protecting the device with a code would come back, i'd like to suggest to delete all the settings after maybe 5 times the wrong code was entered. Then the privacy of the user is guaranteed when home adress and other usefull places,.. are configured.
Example: thief steals navigation system, guess the password after many tries, sees that the user is a bit far away from home, and possibly means that no one would be at home..
At the 3rd try, let the user visually see the entered numbers, to verify that they are correctly.

How about remote locking by sending a text message to the sim card!
when locked it just displays your surname and postcode when turned on
And send a text or enter a code to unlock it!![]()

I've got a feature request that I bet no one has thought of and I bet no other manufacturer has implemented at this point. It's kind of like a DVR feature. The unit knows where you are and how fast you are driving at all times. Why not have the unit record latituted and longitude, street or highway name, speed and time of day information every second or two and keep say the last 15 minutes worth of data. Each data reading could probably be stored in less than 100 bytes so 15 mintues of data could be stored in less than 100,000 bytes.
Now you might ask what would you use this for. Let's suppose that you get pulled over in heavy traffic and the officer tells you that you were speeding. You tell the officer that everyone was passing you and you're wondering why you got pulled over and no one else did and he just says that you were the lucky one. You know you weren't speeding so you hand him your GPS and ask him to play back your last 30 minutes of driving. He pulls up an onscreen report that shows your speed for the last 30 minutes and the officer either let's you off or knows he might have a battle in court enforcing the ticket.
I know that is way out in left field but it wasn't that long ago that the thought of having a GPS device itself was way out in left field. Come on TomTom, let's be on the cutting edge.

@rdbishop999,
You can do that with just about any smart phone using an app
And TomTom had that feature when they had the Compaq iPAQ version of their software that ran on PDAs.
Its been before and if you search the internet you will find at least one person who got out of a speeding ticket using the information

These days my BIGGEST wish is that TomTom will come true, and publicly present the 100X development and release roadmap, showing us what their REAL plans are - and show us that TomTom is COMMITTED to their users.
My largest worry is that we will see TomTom abandon the 100X series.....
