Thanks for the heads up on this problem. Please keep us posted on the outcome.
I agree with you. This forum SHOULD be a valuable source of user feedback to TT but it seems that they don't actually do anything about a problem until pushed very hard by an individual user rather than reacting to the trends that are posted here.
A case in point was the many posts concerning the apparent lack of individual volume level controls for the individual inputs to the sound system - Radio/CD/phone/GPS. The handbook is silent on the issue and there has been no comment from TT. It has been left to a user to discover and disclose a possible solution. TT could have headed off a lot of adverse discussion by monitoring this forum and posting the solution. Somebody needs their backsides kicking in the organisation!!

Hi all,
I have just got into this forum ..... I too have the same problem with the speed camera readings, I travel a lot throughout the uk and depend on my tomtom a great deal especially when traveling in different towns and cities, having read your posts I find it weird that the portable tom toms can give accurate readings on camera speed but tomtom is unable to correct this problem with the inbuilt sat nav..........jeez tomtom get your fingers out and fix it !!!!

I totally agree as previously posted Tom Tom said the issue had been passed on to the 2nd line technical team, many weeks have now passed and after further correspondence Tom Tom have given me live services free for 3 months but still no resolve I will keep you posted if and when I get a resolve.
Thanks Ray

Well, my TT Live subscription expires tomorrow; and because of these inaccurate warning, have decided NOT to renew my subscription.
Very disappointed in TomTom; had my Renault for 3 months; in that time, there has been a software update, but it hasn't fixed the problem.
When I called up to complain about it (again) a couple of days ago, and to check that it's still just £55 to reactivate if the current service expires; so I said to the agent.....
"If I allow my subscription to expire, and renew in 3 months time, will it just cost £55 to reactivate it?".
The response was unbelievable.....
"It will just cost £55, however I wouldn't expect it to be fixed within the next 3 months".
Doesn't really show that they are working very hard, on what should be a very easy problem to fix.
Very disappointed.

Bought my new Renault Scenic mid Dec since then TomTom has driven me mental. No mobile speed camera warnings at all and it does not pick up all fixed ones. Flashes at both 18 and 24 mph dependent on mood when approaching SOME 30mph limits not all and not consistentently. Shows 10mph speed limits on many 30 mph roads?
Flashes at 30mph on most everyday roads but after careful testing have found out that I only get an audible warning at 38mph if slow acceleration and 46mph if quick acceleration. In a 70 mph zone it goes audible at 82mph.
Have had the car in with dealer all day and they say sat nav compares with other Renaults and took me out in vehicle they have as hire car (a megane) and that did the same came, did not come on audibly till at least 39mph but more often about 44mph in 30 zones though flashes at about 3/4mph over and on minor road it did not even indicate a speed limit.
Dealer said TomTom told them the 18/24mph warnings are a known issue and will be rectified in the near future, after reading these posts I doubt it, they can give no answer for no mobile warnings and the excuse from renault about the deviation in audible and flashing warnings wee that the system cannot work it out in time because of multiple satellites.
We took our Mobile camera out on a run along the M2 and on A roads in Kent and got 7/8 warnings of mobile cameras and all audible signals within 3mph of the actual speed limits but not one matching signal on the Cardimat unit. They even differred in journey times and distances.
Answer basically from Renault and Tom Tom is thats the system so live with it. I took the issue up with Mobility as it is funded via them but all they could say was if dealer said no problem little they could do but ring them to discuss so very unhappy indeed!

This is what happens to Customer Service when a company has a large market share and thinks that it can walk on water!!

I totally agree, just to update you I have just received a map update from TOM TOM but it has not solved the problem. I will to let this issue drop and if need be take the issue forward with trading standards as not fit for purpose. I have not known such a poor system. My last Garmin system costing less than 100 pounds gave me accurate vehicle speed, accurate speed camera information and informed me I was over the speed limit within 3 MPH which is what you need compare this to the Carminat. No real vehicle speed display ( have to rely on speedo upto 10% out) inaccurate warnings and what good is it even when working correctly if it only warns you when you are well over the speed limit. The only thing this very expensive fixed system is doing at the moment is making my nerves bad with inaccurate warnings and hindering me with poor unreliable warnings of excessive speed. Keep posting guys Renault and Tom Tom need to get their act together. It can't and souldn't be accepted. Ray

To be fair........... I think that you will find that the overspeed inaccuratecy depends on the amount of acceleration.
With my Carminat, if I creep up slowly on the speed limit it sounds off at around 5 - 7 km/hr over the limit.
The system takes a finite time to compare actual speed with speed limit and then to activate the warning. If your speed is accelerating rapidly then you will get the indication at exactly the same time difference but in that time you will have accelerated to a higher speed.
I was also a Garmin user and I found the same problem there except maybe the processing time was just a smidgin shorter.

We must not let this rest. If a mobile TomTom had these faults it would be back to Halfords or wherever and it would be replaced under warranty. My car is 3 weeks old and everyone is virtualy saying stuff the warranty. Renault are the end supplier they are the responsible party, when they put pressure on we get get somewhere. If we had a faulty radio they would be putting it right. There are no excuses, if a mobile unit can work then these fixed units should work too as lets face it we pay more to buy them, update them, etc than we do a mobile unit so why are people not really pushing to get this resolved.
I dont know the best way to tackle this Im just a disbled lady with a mobility vehicle but I paid a lot of extra up front to get this model because of my needs and this unit is not fit for purpose and I cannot afford to throw good money away. Have others approached Renault UK. Im putting a recorded delivery letter in the post tomorrow and think we should all push this somehow.

Tom Tom errors.
When approaching a speed camera and following a Tom Tom route the system compares incorrect values.
In a 30mph limit the system correctly displays the black circled 30mph speed limit sign until it detects the camera position when the circle goes red and flashes and the speed limit is shown as 18 mph. At this point the speedometer shows that actual road speed is 30mph!
The Tom Tom system is simply looking at an incorrect mph/kph look up table.
30kph = 18mph and now Tom Tom compares your road speed 30mph with its own incorrectly calculated speed limit of 18mph and displays the red flashing circle and 18mph limit. You also get the loud and uneducable audio warning.
This is consistent with the other incorrect speed limit warnings because you are almost always travelling at actual road speed that is higher than the incorrectly converted value.
These incorrect values are as follows and these appear on the Tom Tom when camera locations are detected on roads with different speed limits.
Kph 30 = 18mph
Kph 40 = 24mph
Kph 50 = 31mph
Kph 60 = 37mph
Kph 70 = 43 mph
I have seen all of these mph values shown as the speed limit!
