Built in TomToms

Hi everyone

Just so we are all clear - those of us who have built-in TomToms are low on the priority list for any developments. As Ditte said on the main board:

'Your built-in device is unfortunately not compatible with the new Danger Zone service from TomTom. As soon as the situation changes and your device becomes compatible, you will be notified by email, however we will also announce it here on the forum.'

I have had an issue with Mapshare not working for well over a month but no fix (or date for a fix) in sight, I'm not aware of any software upgrades in line with what everyone else has had - I'm sure there's other things which we're not getting.

Yet we paid for the unit and for maps: is anyone else feeling like we're second-class citizens?

Ditte, anyone from TomTom care to comment?

Re: Built in TomToms

Two weeks since my original post and no response from TT - not even a 'No, you're wrong'. No comment about when we can expect French Danger Zones, no fix for Mapshare, no system upgrades to match other systems.....

I rest my case.

Re: Built in TomToms

Couldn't agree more it is annoying knowing that a device that cost several hundred pounds or more in some cases does less than a device that that costs less than half the price. Although these devices cost more to the end user than a PND how much profit does tomtom make from these sales?. Most are third party devices with a tomtom module bolted on.

When tomtom admit that the PND market is on the slide and the built in units are going to make a bigger profit share over the coming years you would think tomtom would spend more time developing these units to ensure they are "market leading". But unfortunately they are not alone in this regard garnin also fail to bring timely product enhancements/ bugfixes to there built in offering

tomtom if your listening please provide the following updates for my xnv module / other built in devices:

add color schemes

add voices

add images

add vehicle icons

add warnings sounds

enable mapshare changes

upgrade to navcore 11

these are all things the cheap devices have had so why not the built in devices? Where your future sales growth is going to come from if any one else can think of anything I have missed please feel free to ad it below.

Re: Built in TomToms

Also add:

Lane assist

Text-to-speech

Photo-realistic junction views

etc., etc.

Assume it is the usual built-in problem - 3 or 4 year design development period for car, and then you buy the car 2 or 3 years into it's life cycle, so the TomTom technology is 5 to 7 years behind current PNDs, and is incapable of major updates due to memory/processor limitations.

Re: Built in TomToms

Also, bring the price of the maps and voice down to a more acceptable level of pricing!!! Most annoying seeing the Euro map at £105 OMG I could fly to Poland for that price, let alone drive there. The prices are the most extortionate I have ever seen.

Re: Built in TomToms

I have just been told by TT tech support that they have an agreement with the French Government that ALL TT devices MUST have the danger zone mods completed by end of July.

"As told in my previous mails that is a matter between Renault and TomTom, but we have a deadline from the French government to have the danger zones ready for all of our products ( that means Carminat as well...) by the end of July 2012".

Personmally I cannot see what Renault's input would be to this problem but we can but hope...........

Re: Built in TomToms

I have now been told that the reason for the carminat Live delay is because the hardware is Renault and the software is TT!!!

Once again, the customers suffers!!

As it is TT who are getting the blast you would think that they would do something so as to be able to get together with Renault and solve the problem. Personally, I still feel that the danger Zone upgrade is a software only issue. Are we going to have to go to a Renault garage and change out the hardware? If not then it must be a software fix!!
